With the emphasis of starting the season with a bang, the seniors jumped out of the blocks with a huge first quarter taking the game head on and slotting through 8 majors in the best quarter of footy the club has had this year. The creative handballs and ball movement was exceptional with Hymie, Batman, Sam and Darcy all having outstanding first quarters and Hursty delivering 4 goals for the quarter. The defence of the Pigs was also on show, keeping the home side to only a point.
If the first quarter was the best this year, then the second was the worst. All of the creativity that occurred in the first, disappeared in the second and Eley Park's response was by kicking 3 goals to 1, winning the quarter. The pigs went into half time only 25 points up and a fired up coach George Koumantatakis came into the rooms upset at our poor second quarter performance.
The boys came out in the third quarter refreshed and with a licence to take the game on and kicked the first two goals of the quarter. The intensity at the ball came back and the creative handballs returned finding our forward line on many occassions but our inability to capitalise on kicking straight hurt us. Jimmy's ruck work and tex's creativity from the backline scored us 5.9 for the quarter and a late lapse in concentration let the home side kick 5.2 and still be in the match at 3 quarter time.
The last quarter was where the razorbacks, bouyed by their fitness, over-ran an older and slower Eley Park slotting 5 majors to 2 and giving us our first win of the season by 53 points. Congratulations to Darcy Higgins for being voted the best on ground for the day and recieving the 6-pack. His attack on the ball and his ability to get the hands out to runners was great, not to mention he took a massive hit in the last quarter in which the Eley Park player came off second best. The negatives to take out of the match was our forward line struggled to convert easy opportunities into goals by leading into the pockets and moving up the field and our defenders and midfielders not picking up their players in time when the ball was turned over. Positives were when we took on the opposition and moved the ball quickly we caught them out, when we switched the play we almost always scored and when we used our handballs creatively we opened up space for our teammates to penetrate into the forward line.

The reserves jumped out of the blocks and dominated proceedings from very early on in the game. After piling on 8 goals to 1 in the first quarter, the game was already out of reach for Eley Park and the domination continued in the second quarter with the Pigs outscoring the Sharks 4 goals to 1 with the Razorbacks going into the main break with a 56 point lead. The third quarter was the closest contest of the match with Eley Park notching up 3 straight goals with Swinburne hindering some of their scoring chances, kicking 4 goals and 5 behinds. The last quarter was a formality with a 4 goal last quarter in which we saw the razorbacks run out 88 point victors.
The stand out players for this match were Kendog slotting 7 majors, Harrow looking dangerous with 4 majors and outstanding games from Joshy Carrol, Alan Chung, Blythatron, Scoota and new recruit Moore. The senior coach will have a hard time next week with all of these players pushing for selection in the seniors.
